Ao Nang Local Islands

If you are seeking diversity in your diving experience, the Ao Nang islands are a great destination in Krabi. This dive site consists of several rock islets that offer a variety of diving locations to suit all types of divers. Just like the dive sites available here, the marine life is also widely varied that includes hawksbill turtles, leopard sharks, groupers, barracudas, and schools of reef fish. The reef itself also boasts of vibrant colors that will make your dive memorable.

Bida Nai

While this dive site is a bit small, it is no less impressive. This dive site in Krabi offers swim throughs that are home to many fish species including ghost pipefish, scorpion fish, and nudibranch. If you care to explore deeper into the reef, you can also stumble upon large barrel sponges and sea whips. Make sure to explore the sandy areas and bottom of the rocks to find these marine species.

Bida Nok

For all dive and live board enthusiasts in Krabi, this is one of their favorite sites. There is a good reason for this – Bida Nok consists of vertical walls that are filled with colorful corals. You will find more colorful corals the deeper you go underwater. Aside from these corals, you will find an abundance of shelf overhangs, crevices, and recesses that serve as home to a variety of marine species. This is the best dive site to go to when you want to see angelfishes, butterfly fishes, parrotfishes, wrasse, and moray eels.

King Cruiser Wreck

This shipwreck is another famous dive site in Krabi. This ship sank in 1997 when it collided with the Anemone Reef. Today, the shipwreck sits close to the reef in an upright position. The shallowest portion of the shipwreck is at 12 meters at the captain’s cabin. It has transformed into an artificial reef that is home to schooling fish and lionfish. Exploring the inside of the shipwreck is not allowed, though.

BEST TIME TO DIVE

Krabi has excellent diving conditions all year round. This can be attributed to its popularity. However, it does have a monsoon season, which must be avoided for those who want to maximize their diving trip. Monsoon season takes place in May to November.

For optimal diving conditions, you must book your diving trip from January to March. This will ensure maximum visibility underwater so you can make the most of each dive.

HOW TO GET TO KRABI

By Air:

The Krabi International Airport is the closest airport to fly to if you want to go to Krabi. There are several international and domestic flights that fly to this airport on a daily basis, mostly from Thai Airways and Bangkok Airways. There are also flights from Air Asia from Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur.

By Land:

There are plenty of options to travel to Krabi by land. The first option is via car as you will find many car rental operators in Thailand. You can also ride a taxi to get to Krabi and you must travel via Highway 4.

Riding a bus is another option for getting to Krabi by land. You can go to Bangkok’s Southern Terminal to find a bus that is headed for Krabi for less than 500 Baht. There are also VIP buses that offer a more comfortable ride. The bus ride will take about 10 hours from Bangkok.

Finally, you can travel via train to Krabi. The nearest stations are located at Surat Thani and Trang.
