Being so close to Malaysia makes the island of Tawi-Tawi a somewhat different experience from the rest of the Philippines, both from the community and gastronomy to the sights and activities available.
Tawi-Tawi is commonly known for security concerns, so be aware and coordinate with the local tourism office before heading to the island. Despite this, the island is a beautiful place to experience, a tropical paradise that blends Malaysian and Philippine culture with natural beauty.
To make it to Tawi-Tawi you’ll have to travel first to Zamboanga City, you can get there by flight through Manila, Davao or Cebu. Once in Zamboanga head to the port and take a boat or ferry to Bongao Port, the capital of Tawi-Tawi.
